This will be the fourth consecutive year for Blue Dog to have a team in the marathon. And, Blue Dog Rescue is one of only a few charities participating in 26 Miles for 26 Charities that is comprised and operated solely by volunteers. That means all the funds raised go directly to the dogs. Last year, the Blue Team of 34 amazing runners raised over $25,000, more than double the 2009 total and more than five times the total from 2008. That means more dogs were helped, rescued, fed, saw vets, were spayed or neutered, found permanent homes. More than we ever dared to hope for.
Here's how your support of the runners helps the dogs of Blue Dog Rescue.
- At $1 per mile for the half marathoners, the $13 buys vaccinations for 1 Blue Dog.
- At $2 per mile for the half marathoners, or $1 for the full marathoners, the $26 provides a basic vet exam and vaccinations for 1 Blue Dog.
- At $2 per mile for the full marathon, the $52 provides a basic vet exam, vaccinations, and heartworm and fecal testing for a Blue Dog.
- A $100 donation takes care of all the basic vet care as well as a neuter for 1 Blue Dog.
